Hands Across The Sea – 2022/23 Handing Over Ceremony

On Wednesday 16th November 2022, the Handing Over Ceremony of books from Hands Across The Sea (HATS) was held at the Conference Room of the National Public Library with this year’s theme being “Reading Makes Me Smart”.

With funding provided by the Mustique Charitable Foundation (MCF), HATS will distribute 4,546 books to 15 Primary Schools most of which are within the Red & Orange Zones in St. Vincent along with one school in the Grenadines and the National Public Library. The selected schools in the red and orange zones were those directly affected by the La Soufriere Eruptions in April 2021.

At the ceremony, Yvette Pompey (HATS-Literacy Link) and Enna Bullock (HATS-Literacy Link), both gave brief remarks where they expressed their sincere gratitude to the Mustique Charitable Foundation and President Nancy Young, who played a key role in the beginning of this relationship.

Natalia Gill (Project Director-Mustique Charitable Foundation) noted that it was MCF’s sixth (6th) year contributing funding for books and HATS Literacy Links. She also, in her address, told the teachers and principals in attendance, to continue to practice grace and patience when working with students in literacy and in speaking to the students, she encouraged them to make a conscious effort as practicing literacy can easily grow into more than a skill.

The Mustique Charitable Foundation 2022 Gala

October 21, 2021

On October 13, Mustique homeowners, renters, and friends of The Mustique community gathered in the Model Room of the New York Yacht Club to enjoy an evening of animated conversations, champagne and cocktails.

This year The MCF funded 154 partial scholarships for disadvantaged yout Vincentians at the four technical institutes: Barrouallie Technical Institute, Campden Park Technical Institute, Georgetown Technical Institute, and Kingstown Technical Institute.

Through Hands Across the Sea we purchased, shipped and distributed 3,641 books for 126 preschools and support for literacy professionals covering 93 primary and secondary schools and potentially reaching close to 19,000 Vincentian children.

Thankfully we were able to resume our Health projects this year and funded 7 surgical teams (including General Orthopedic, Urology, and Neurosurgery) who were able to provide diagnostic care for an estimated 280 children, and 44 surgeries.

Campden Park Technical Institute Graduation Ceremony 2020-2021 and 2021-2022

The Graduation Ceremony for Campden Park Technical Institute (CPTI) for the academic years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 took place on Wednesday 29th June 2022 and Mustique Charitable Foundation (MCF) is pleased to announce that twenty-five (25) trainees from academic year 2020-2021 and all thirty-five (35) from academic year 2021-2022 who were awarded MCF Partial Scholarships, successfully graduated from their respective programs. To add to this, the Valedictorian and the Most Outstanding Performer in each of the seven (7) programs offered were MCF Partial Scholarship Awardees. The programs offered for 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic year included Cake Baking and Decorating, Electrical Installation, Food and Drink Services, Welding, Plumbing, General Office Administration and Food Preparation and Cookery.

At the ceremony, Mr. Iran Rouse (CPTI Administrative Head) spoke briefly on the challenges that were faced including the COVID-19 Pandemic and La Soufrière Volcanic Eruptions which caused no graduation to take place in 2021. Nevertheless, he expressed his pride as “sitting before him, are the trainees that overcame these adversities and pushed through to complete their courses in order to obtain certification”.

During her brief address, Natalia Gill (MCF Project Director) reminded the graduates that “Though their journey may appear more difficult than some, they are evidence that there is a paradigm shift on the horizon within the realm of skill-based education” and that “Giving up is not an option”.

MCF is heartened by the performance of all Awardees between both the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years and hope that our Partial Scholarships will continue to benefit trainees in the years to come.

Barrouallie Technical Institute Handover Ceremony The Mustique Charitable Foundation Startup Grant/Loan Project 2022-2023

Barrouallie Technical Institute Handover Ceremony The Mustique Charitable Foundation Startup Grant/Loan Project 2022-2023

The official ceremony to mark the handing over of tools and equipment to trainees in The Mustique Charitable Foundation (MCF)/Barrouallie Technical Institute (BarTech) Startup Grant/Loan Project took place on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 10 am at the Barrouallie Learning Resource Centre.

The Startup Grant/Loan Project has been made possible by a grant from MCF and will enable ten (10) trainees from six (6) specialty areas to receive tools and equipment to start their own business after completing training at BarTech. The specialty areas chosen for this Project are Housekeeping, Cake Baking and Decoration, Front Office Operation, Garment Production, Amenity Horticulture, and General Administration.

Mrs. Pearlette Primus-Hannaway (Principal of BarTech) stated that the idea for this Project came about as many BarTech trainees started businesses within their specialty areas to earn extra funds during their training year. However, most would have had to ask to use tools and equipment at BarTech. BarTech saw this as an opportunity and brought forward the idea for the Project to MCF. Mrs. Primus-Hannaway also expressed her immense gratitude for the funding received from MCF for this project and thanked them for the continual support over the years.

At the ceremony, during her brief address, Natalia Gill (MCF Project Director) encouraged the ten (10) recipients to “become not only physically, but emotionally invested into their business and to not take the training received at BarTech for granted”.

The Project, as the name suggests, takes the form of a grant/loan agreement which would see recipients pay back 20% of the total cost of the tools and equipment three (3) months after their business becomes operational. This will help trainees to gain a sense of responsibility and ensure that they are able to sustain a profit-making business. The funds that are paid back will then be used to assist trainees in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Georgetown Technical Institute (GTI) Graduation Ceremony 2020-21 and 2021-22

Georgetown Technical Institute Graduation Ceremony 2020-2021 and 2021-2022

Georgetown Technical Institute (GTI) held its Graduation Ceremony for the academic years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 on Thursday 30th June 2022 at which, thirty (30) of MCF Partial Scholarship Awardees successfully graduated from their respective programs for the 2020-2021 academic year and twenty-six (26) from the 2021-2022 academic year.

Mustique Charitable Foundation (MCF) is also pleased to announce that MCF Partial Scholarship Awardees received the “Most Outstanding” award in each program area, those being Food and Drink Service, Food Preparation and Cookery, Welding, Electrical Installation and Furniture Making.

The theme of GTI’s ceremony was “Persevering through trying times” and Mr. Kendal Sam (GTI Principal) acknowledged the trials that this graduating year faced which caused GTI to miss out on the opportunity of having a graduation ceremony last year. However, he expressed his pride in the work and determination of the trainees which saw the Institute re-opening soon after the La Soufrière Volcanic Eruptions.

At the ceremony, during her brief address, Natalia Gill (MCF Project Director) encouraged the graduates and advised them that “Though there is a current lack of emphasis on skill-based education, each of you are the evidence that technically trained persons are a core element of any project and without them, nothing would be possible in everyday life.”

Mustique Charitable Foundation is heartened by the performance of all Awardees for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic year and hope that the MCF Partial Scholarships will continue to benefit trainees in the year to come.
