Hurricane Beryl Relief Efforts by MCF

Hurricane Beryl Relief Efforts by MCF

2023-2024 MCF Trainees

Firstly, in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Beryl hitting St. Vincent and the Grenadines, we reached out to the technical institutes and the SVG Community College divisions that we are currently supporting to see if they or their students had any immediate needs.  They did and we were able to fund most of them.  In addition, we were able to fund a major initiative by the Ministry of Education to provide vocational training to some 140 Union islanders who were sheltering on St. Vincent.  This training will be held at a number of the technical institutes that we are already supporting.

Finally, we have funded the initiative by Ali Mejahed of Sweetie Pie Bakery to provide 65 loaves of bread, 6 days a week, to the few Union islanders remaining on that island.

The present challenge is to find ways to help on Union Island given the lack of functioning infrastructure to receive and distribute that support.  The recovery of Union Island will require a major commitment by a wide range of relief organizations.  With your generous support we will be able to play a meaningful role in that effort.

Kingstown Technical Institute Graduation Ceremony 2022-2023 & 2023-2024

Kingstown Technical Institute Graduation Ceremony 2022-2023 and 2023-2024

The Graduation Ceremony for Kingstown Technical Institute (KTI) for students of academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 took place on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the New Testament Church, Wilson Hill.

For another year, the Mustique Charitable Foundation (MCF) was able to fund lunches under a grant program with Kingstown Technical Institute where the Foundation provided partial scholarship support that helped make attendance possible for students selected by KTI as most in need. MCF offered twenty-four (24) partial scholarships across four programs in 2022-2023 and also in 2023-2024. The four programs included Plumbing, Electrical Installation, Food Preparation & Cookery and General Office Administration.

The theme of KTI’s ceremony was “Prepared for the journey” and Mr. Bertillon Hamilton (KTI Principal) stated that though each trainee has had their challenges, being able to ride the storm, allowed them to become better prepared to provide quality service and skills in the real world. He encouraged students to keep growing, enjoy their journey and aim for the sky.

During her brief address at the event, Natalia Gill (MCF Project Director) reminded the graduates to be open to learning, set goals and to be patient. She went on to say that it is important to focus on your progress and not so much being perfect. Progress means practicing your craft and using reflection as a way to propel forward in life.

Mustique Charitable Foundation is heartened by the performance of all Awardees between both the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic years and hope that our Partial Scholarships will continue to benefit trainees in the years to come.

Hands Across The Sea – 2023/24 Handing Over Ceremony

Hands Across The Sea  2023/24 Handing Over Ceremony

On Friday 20th October 2023, the Handing Over Ceremony of books from Hands Across The Sea (HATS) was held at the Conference Room of the National Public Library under the theme “Chartering a Brighter Path for Child Literacy”.

With funding provided by the Mustique Charitable Foundation (MCF), HATS will distribute 2,599 books and 7 floor mats to 11 Primary Schools across St. Vincent. The selected schools will include 7 libraries that are being rejuvenated and 4 libraries that are receiving books as a ‘top-up’ to their current collection.

At the ceremony, Amanda Sherlip, HATS Executive Director, expressed her sincere gratitude to the Mustique Charitable Foundation and President Nancy Young. Amanda stated that despite HATS own challenges since the COVID-19 pandemic, they cannot thank MCF enough for never wavering their support towards the main goal, to offer vital support and improve literacy across St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

Natalia Gill, Project Director – Mustique Charitable Foundation, noted that she was pleased about HATS decision to focus this year on Primary Schools as they are the core of a child’s education. She also stated the utmost importance for partnerships and thanked both Hands Across the Sea and the Ministry of Education for allowing this project to take place year after year.

Together, HATS and MCF continue to charter new territories and lead with clarity, resolve and care for the communities across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The specialty areas chosen for this Project are Garment Production, Aquaculture & Crop Production and Commercial Food Preparation & Cookery.

As both of the Handover Ceremony and 2023 Graduation were combined, Mustique Charitable Foundation (MCF) was also pleased to witness thirty (30) trainees from academic year 2023-2024 who were awarded MCF Partial Scholarships, successfully graduated from their respective programs. The programs offered for this academic year included Aquaculture & Crop Production, Food & Drinks Service, Food Preparation, Garment Production and Housekeeping.

The Mustique Charitable Foundation is extremely proud of the academic success of the thirty (30) awardees for the 2022-2023 school year and anticipates similar success for the forty-two (42) trainees who received MCF Partial Scholarships for the 2023-2024 school year.
